Enhance Your Travel Insurance to Suit Your Ski Holiday

February 17th, 2012 · No Comments

You may be one of many holiday makers who do not want to lounge on the beach or stick to a holiday resort in the sun.  If you are looking for a more active holiday to take part in winter sports, then you will want to make sure your travel insurance policy reflects your activity choice.

Many people love to go skiing or snowboarding at different times of the year to take advantage of the fresh snowfalls around the world.  These sports can be very dangerous and increase the likelihood of accidents requiring a stay in hospital.  You are probably aware that without adequate insurance cover that you will have to pay for any treatment yourself.  This can be expensive.  Breaking your leg while skiing in the United States could cost over £70,000 including treatment and getting back home.

Luckily, many insurers will cover you for a whole range of winter sports as an optional extra on your travel insurance policy.  However, even if you have an existing policy, you can either add winter sports cover to your policy, or you may want to consider a separate policy to cover you during your trip.  You should also think about the style of activity you will be undertaking. Travel insurance providers may apply different premiums to activities based on their level of risk. Whether you are considering off-piste activities, cross-country skiing, mono-skiing, or tobogganing, you will find a policy that suits you.

Once you have considered your own activities, then you need to consider the amount of insurance you require to cover equipment that you will use.  You may find it cheaper to include this in your travel insurance before you go rather than rely on any insurance that will be present at the resort.
