Adventure holidays are a good excuse for getting the family away from the pressures and problems of real life for a time. The stresses of urban life just melt away when you turn your mind towards outdoor pursuits and start breathing fresh air.
Hiking is the sort of outdoor activity that brings to mind pleasurable leisurely strolls, walking sticks and khaki shorts. However, it is much more than that. Hiking is a proven form of enjoyable moderate exercise for even the most anti-exercise individual. Requiring only as much effort as you want to put into it, hiking is a stress-free way of getting exercise and a day out in the sun.
Also, hiking is the perfect activity for a one-off adventure or family away day, as it provides a quick, relatively easy goal-orientated activity for the entire family. Hiking allows for the appraisal of wonderful scenery and a chance to enjoy a slower, more sedate pace than the modern world normally allows.
As an adventure holiday, it can turn from a nice one-day walk into a journey of several days. While one might not know it, the UK contains some of the prime hiking areas this side of the Atlantic – pitch-perfect for long-term hiking. Take Hadrian’s Wall for example…a well known destination for hikers from the world over and it’s practically in your backyard!
If you’re stuck for ideas why not try an adventure centre? These centres often have fully outlined adventure holidays, including hiking holidays that are just waiting for the right customer.
