Outdoor Activities for an Indoor Generation

June 2nd, 2009 · No Comments

An outdoor adventure may be the answer to many activity days, from entertaining the family to a corporate away day. There are numerous activity centres across the UK that offer a wide range of activities to get everyone involved and keep everyone happy on any budget.

From a single day out to an adventure holiday, it is all available, and with a wide range of activities to suit all ages and abilities everyone is welcome. With the government highlighting the problem of Britain’s obese younger generation, getting kids outdoors and active has become a main priority for a lot of parents.

With adventures from kayaking and mountain biking to rock climbing and hiking the specialist centres across the country are guaranteed to keep kids active and healthy. Family activities also help to unite the family, and a little healthy competition along the way never hurts either.

According to a Department of Health survey, 72% of children do not get enough exercise; this is resulting in them being overweight and destined to be unhealthy in later life. In order to combat this, parents must encourage exercise and outdoor pursuits to children rather than computer games and inside activities.  Adventure centres combine the perfect levels of play and exercise, encouraging children to stay active and enjoy the great outdoors.

Exercise does not need to be extreme or strenuous but should keep children active while being enjoyable. Outside adventures appeal to children as something different and fun while parents are happy because their child is exercising, interacting and developing.
