Outdoor Pursuits – a popular pastime!

August 18th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Nowadays the most popular pastimes of people in the UK seem to be the most sedentary ones such as watching TV, going to the cinema or playing the latest Playstation game. It’s no wonder that the nation’s population is becoming more obese. With no good old-fashioned exercise to break up our routines, it’s little wonder we are less fit than ever.

Fortunately, it’s not all doom and gloom. In a bid to get the nation moving and active, there has been a resurgence of interest in outdoor-pursuit schemes facilitated by the opening of several adventure parks in the UK. By combining an element of fun and adventure with the aerobic hard work many of these outdoor pursuits require, organisers have ensured their growing popularity.

Arguably the nation still loves the thrill of adventure, perhaps more than the satisfying crunch offered by a packet of crisps. This is why many of us are walking out of our front door, putting on our sports gear and getting our hands dirty with some of the great adventure schemes on offer.

Consider sitting down to watch the Eastenders omnibus at the weekend then think about the alternative of swinging through the trees in one of the beautiful forests in England, supported only by a rope and pulley. Wouldn’t most of us prefer the latter if we were honest? Thankfully, many of us do as evidenced by the new popularity of adventure course stag-dos instead of down-the-pub binges, and corporate away days instead of boardroom boredom. Many UK businesses now use away days for their employees for leadership training and team building activities.
